Choose to Receive Your Good

Who are you without your struggle?  If you are so used to struggling, unhappiness, emotional suffering, scarcity, lack, less-than, and you want to create ease, happiness, enthusiasm, joy, abundance, self-worth – start in small ways to enable a greater and greater capacity to hold happiness – to open and receive your good.

How practiced are you in receiving?  When “my” dog showed up out of the North Carolina woods, he was tired, starving, ribs showing, ears cut up from running through briars, scared, and yet he was ready to soak up the food, water, affection, play, and love showered on him by a bunch of strangers!  What a lesson to witness in being open to receive goodness.

In coaching conversations with clients, it is interesting to hear how much we identify with the past, clinging to the familiarity of what we do not want.  We often have a lot of resistance to practicing the new way of being that we imagine.  Replacing the old is not as far off as we might think.  “Positive” thoughts have much more oomph than “negative” thoughts.  Think about this – one small flame from a candle can light an entire huge dark room allowing you to see everything; however, it is impossible to bring a small amount of darkness into a bright room and make it dark!

I wish I could show you, when you are lonely or in darkness, the astonishing light of your own being. ~ Hafiz

Many people think they have to be good and therefore in God’s favor to have good things happen to them, and if bad things are happening, they must be out of God’s favor and are being punished.  What if, instead of thinking of a fickle God who chooses who is in good standing and bad, you view “good” as believing in your good and aligning yourself with all the positive in the Universe and being “bad” as working against your good and misalignment with God’s gifts. Don’t stand on the garden hose of life that is bringing all our bounty to us constantly flowing from the Divine. This is a joint project here on Earth.  God helps those who help themselves.  Notice when you are choosing not to receive abundance in all things.

It is our free will to choose to prevent bringing goodness and showering blessings upon ourselves.  We have the right and ability to be our own oppressor and choose not to receive.  Each time we experience and feel gratitude, joy, abundance, acceptance, peace, love, compassion, enthusiasm, we allow miracles to be created and flow.  When we are fearful, revengeful, ungrateful, believe in lack and scarcity, resist, fight, hate, judge, our free will bestows upon us more of the same.

What we see manifested in our lives is a direct out picturing of the beliefs and feelings that we have sent like energy signals – beacons out into the cosmos that are picked up and sends back to us what we “have ordered.” Also, we don’t really know if something that we judge as “being bad” is really a great thing for us in the long run.  As long as we keep with our vision and alignment with blessings and gratitude, we are less likely to judge something as bad, and more likely to be open to receiving the lesson, and adopt a wait-and-see attitude. Some of the most fantastic experiences and learnings in our lives have started out as something that we judged as a “bad” thing happening to us.

As in the Earth, Wind, and Fire song Fantasy, “Every thought is a dream, rushing by in a stream, bringing life to the kingdom of doing.”  Translated as, your thoughts and dreams become created in this life.  First it is imagined in the kingdom of being then it is made visible in the kingdom of doing (earth).  I am far from being fully open to all the goodness, but I continually practice creating and receiving, and I’m getting better at it every day!  I encourage you to join me!

We are each gifted in a unique and important way.  It is our privilege and our adventure to discover our own special light. ~ Mary Dunbar
